These cameras do more than record. When a person or car enters a zone you choose, they flash, sound off and tell whoever is there that they have been seen.
Cars parked in driveways and carports are easy targets, whether it is someone trying door handles along the street at night or someone after the car itself. Our suburb pages show how many of these offences police recorded in each division. A normal camera records it happening. A deterrence camera reacts while the person is still standing next to the car.
Each deterrence camera is a 4K camera with red and blue strobes, a built-in siren and speaker, and person and vehicle detection on board. You draw the zones that matter, such as the driveway, the carport or the side gate. When a person or vehicle enters one, the camera can flash its strobes, play a warning or sound the siren, and your phone gets the alert at the same time. From the app, you can also set off the siren yourself or talk through the speaker.
Our active deterrence package starts at $1,890 installed. It includes four 4K cameras with strobes and sirens, an eight channel recorder with room for four more cameras, a 2TB surveillance drive, colour night vision, two-way audio and person and vehicle filtering. Warranty is three years on equipment and five years on workmanship.
The setup decides whether these cameras are useful or annoying. Zones are drawn tightly, so a car driving past on the street does not trigger the siren but one turning into the driveway does. Detection is set to people and vehicles only, which keeps out possums, cats, dogs and moving palms. Responses go on a schedule. A common one is strobes only in the evening and the siren after midnight, with everything quiet during the day when the family is coming and going.
Think about neighbours too, especially in townhouse complexes and on small blocks. A voice warning or strobe often does the job without waking the street.
Driveways and carports where cars sit overnight. Side gates. Sheds and workshops on acreage around Greenbank, Jimboomba, Logan Village and Chambers Flat, where nobody is close enough to hear anything. Business yards in Crestmead, Berrinba and Slacks Creek that should be empty after hours.
The cameras have microphones. Queensland’s Invasion of Privacy Act makes it an offence to record a private conversation you are not part of, so audio recording is usually left off on outdoor cameras. Talking through the speaker and playing warnings is fine.
Yes. They are full 4K cameras recording continuously to the recorder. The strobes, siren and speaker are extras on top.
Most cameras come with preset messages, and many let you record your own. Something short and clear works best, like a warning that the area is monitored and the owner has been alerted.
Often, yes, if the recorder is compatible. Some features need the camera and recorder to be the same brand. We check before quoting.
