The shed holds the expensive stuff and sits where nobody can see it. These systems watch the shed and tell you when someone is near it.
Look inside a typical Logan acreage shed and there is a lot of value in one place: a ride-on mower, a quad bike or side-by-side, power tools, a generator, welders, trailers, fuel in drums and maybe a boat or caravan. All of it can be loaded onto a trailer in minutes, and the shed is usually positioned where noise does not carry to the house.
Start with the approach. A camera facing the track or driveway leading to the shed catches vehicles and people before they reach the door. Then the doors: each roller door and the personal access door. Inside, one or two wide cameras mounted high to cover the floor, the workbench and wherever the vehicles park. Fuel tanks, boats and caravans parked outside get their own camera if they are not already in view.
Metal sheds block Wi-Fi almost completely, so Wi-Fi cameras inside a shed are a poor choice. The better options are a buried Cat6 run if the shed is within about 100 metres of the house, or a wireless bridge, which is a small dish on the outside of the shed pointed at a matching dish on the house. Inside the shed, cameras connect to a small PoE switch, and the bridge carries everything back to the recorder.
If the shed has no power, power has to get there first. Some properties already have a cable to the shed for lights and power points. If not, an electrician can run one, or a solar setup can power a single camera.
Recording is useful afterwards. Knowing at the time is better. With person and vehicle detection, the shed cameras can send an alert the moment someone walks up after dark, without being set off by wildlife or stock. Deterrence cameras add strobes and a siren or recorded voice warning, so whoever is there knows they have been seen.
Use schedules. Alerts and sirens can switch on at dusk and off in the morning, so you are not getting notifications every time you go to the shed yourself.
Sheds are dusty and full of insects. Outdoor rated cameras are sealed against both, but spiders love building webs in front of infrared lights. A wipe of the lens every few months keeps the night picture clear. In summer, a shed roof gets very hot, so cameras and switches go where air moves rather than right up under the roof sheets.
Yes, if they are active deterrence cameras. They can flash strobes and sound a siren or voice warning when a person is detected near the shed after hours.
On the app, the same as every other camera. If you want a screen in the house showing the shed full time, the recorder can drive a TV or monitor.
Yes. A metal shed blocks Wi-Fi, which is one reason wired cameras or a wireless bridge mounted outside the shed work better than Wi-Fi cameras.
